Catherine is currently working on a project with the AHSN, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and GP surgeries in North East England to find patients in primary care who require lipid optimisation. This project involves discussing different oral – (lipid-lowering) therapy options with patients. If they meet the NICE criteria for PCSK9i medication Catherine can invite them to her secondary care lipid clinic where they can discuss and initiate the injectable medication. Part of this work involves identifying patients who might have Familial Hypercholesterolaemia and assessing if they meet the criteria for a genetic test, as well as optimising their lipid therapy.
Catherine enjoys talking to patients and supporting them to use their medication so they get the best clinical outcomes.
