Dr Downie is a Consultant Lipidologist and Chemical Pathologist at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and Specialist CVD Advisor to the West of England Health Innovation Network. His main areas of interest include lipid optimisation in secondary prevention, lipoprotein(a) and hypertriglyceridaemia. He established the only NGS assay, now included in the National Genomics Test Directory, for investigating genetic causes of severe hypertriglyceridaemia. Having previously worked as a GP partner, Dr Downie understands the practical challenges faced by colleagues in general practice and is passionate about taking a pragmatic, patient-centred approach to care. He also has a strong interest in education and works closely with primary care teams to support the optimisation of community-based cardiovascular disease management.
