Anna Mclaughlin

Anna has worked in various community pharmacy roles in Brighton, Melbourne and Dublin before moving home to Newcastle County Down in Northern Ireland to take up one of the first practice pharmacist roles in 2007. Anna has always worked in community alongside practice pharmacy work, and has promoted forging good working relationships between community pharmacy and GP surgeries. She strives to take the pressure off over stretched GP surgeries.

After becoming an independent prescriber in 2012, Anna subsequently completed her post graduate diploma in both asthma and COPD. She now completes the annual reviews for Asthma and COPD patients in her GP practice. Anna recognises that respiratory is an area that community pharmacists could make a huge impact in, and advocates integrated working between both to share the workload with respect to:

  • Carrying out MURs on non-attenders of asthma reviews
  • Carrying out inhaler technique and adherence checking,
  • Monitoring SABA use and checking the appropriateness of rescue pack usage.

Anna runs a walk-in FENO testing clinic in her pharmacy. Seven surrounding GP surgeries send patients requiring FENO testing to her Pharmacy, the results of which are sent back to the referring clinician.
