Dr Adie Viljoen

Dr Viljoen completed his medical and postgraduate medical training in South Africa and has worked as specialist in the UK for more than 12 years. He is a Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Hertfordshire and has co-supervised several MSc and PhD students. He is the Head of School for Training in Metabolic Medicine in the East of England.

He conducts multiple phase 2, 3 and 4 clinical trials in Diabetes, Obesity and Lipids. He has served as the Chief Investigator and on the steering committee for several of these studies.

He’s authored more than 80 papers in peer reviewed medical journals as well as being the author of more than 10 chapters in medical textbooks. He recently co-authored a book on Cardiovascular Risk. He is on the Editorial board of two PubMed indexed journals. He has presented at several national and international diabetes and cardiology conferences.

Dr Viljoen served as a topic expert for various NICE reviews and Technology Appraisals.
