Dr John Mottram

BSc, MBChB, MRCGP, MRCS(Ed), PGCert

Dr John Mottram is based in Wirral, Merseyside. He is a GP, Trainer, PCN Clinical Director and Federation Chair.  After graduating in pharmacology, he had an 8-year career in the pharmaceutical industry before retraining in medicine. He completed core surgical training in North Wales before moving back to Merseyside to complete his GP training. He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of GP’s.

He doesn’t claim to be an expert in pain, he would rather be known as a GP with an interest in the holistic care of his patients. He has an interest in pain for the simple reason that a large proportion of any GP’s consultations are pain related, many repeat prescriptions are for analgesics and most importantly, pain medications have a potential to cause harm. He believes that regular reviews of patients on analgesics should be as important as any of the chronic disease reviews that take place in General Practice. He has encouraged his colleagues to regularly audit analgesic prescribing and undertake pain reviews, he is keen to share his approach, experience, and findings
