Bristol has an active research programme and Dr Downey is currently a principal investigator and sub-investigator on several large several large cardiovascular trials. Dr Downey’s particular areas of interest include optimisation of lipids in secondary prevention, lipoprotein(a), apheresis and in particular hypertriglyceridaemia, having established the only NGS assay in the UK (now included in the National Genomics Test Directory) for the investigation of genetic causes of severe hypertriglyceridemia.
