Nicola Standring-Brown

Nicola qualified as a Registered Nurse from the University of Huddersfield in 2012, graduating with a first-class honours degree. She has a lifelong interest in respiratory medicine and began her career at St James’s University Hospital, working on the acute admissions and high-dependency respiratory wards. During this time, she completed a Master’s degree in Long Term Conditions and progressed into the role of Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Passionate about early intervention and proactive approaches to healthcare, Nicola transitioned into primary care, undertaking further training to practise as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. She is currently a Senior Nurse Educator with the South Yorkshire Primary Care Workforce and Training Hub, where she influences respiratory care across the system. Her work spans workforce education, participation in senior ICB respiratory leadership forums, and supporting the development of high-quality, sustainable respiratory services across South Yorkshire.

Nicola is committed to improving integration between primary care, secondary care and outside organisations to optimise service efficiency and enhance patient experience. She is Chair of the South Yorkshire Respiratory Interest Group, co-leads the South Yorkshire Respiratory Champions Network, and is a member of the Primary Care Respiratory Society (PCRS) Executive Committee. She has also previously served on the PCRS Conference Organising Committee and PCRS Policy Committee as well as co-clinical lead for children and young people’s asthma through South Yorkshire ICB.
